My Proto 1 MTH F3 needs a new number board light. Took off the shell and the cab light, headlight and number board lights are all connected. Assuming I have to replace the whole lighting string. Has anyone done this repair? Can I just replace the one light which is out?

I'd just replace the light that's out. I'm presuming this is the standard 6V bulb common in PS/1 with a CV board powering the lights, right?
Thanks for the help John. The wiring harness plugs into a red port. Would the color have any correlation to voltage, are they color coded? I'm not sure about the 6V. thanks again.
The standard CV board has multiple outputs for 6V, a switched output that was used to supply a Seuthe smoke unit, and also an LED output for markers that has current limiting. Sadly, the colors didn't always match, so I mark the plugs and sockets when I'm taking them apart if it's not obvious where they go. There are also a number of configurations for the CV board in the MTH PS/1 equipment.
