There's an interesting topic over on the "main"/ 3 rail forum regarding the remotoring+ -- actually a new frame and drive train, inc trucks -- of the MTH Traxx [ = NJT ALP46, inter alia ] locos by the Swiss company Hermann. Lots of interesting photos; these are 2 rail scale locos. Look for "New Power Drive for MTH Traxx Engine" [ I think it was ]; it may no longer be on the first page.

Interesting set up, well worth a look. Id be interested in what fails on those boards is it the DCS or DCC or both. So what does one of these setups set you back?

The OP recently answered that question on the 3R forum: About 2500 Swiss Francs [ for the complete loco ], which includes the MTH non-pwd unit for the conversion.
That's about $US2600 right now. Sorry, forgot to check $AU exchange rate.
