I took this engine out of retirement to pull some cars under the Christmas tree. It had no sound and didn't smoke. Anyone have the manual or know why the tender plugs into the engine? I couldn't find anything on the Lionel site.
I'm guessing here but the tender might hold the reverse unit. If it has a smoke unit, look for an on/off switch.
Thanks Jim, I didn't remember seeing an on-off switch when I lubed and oiled the engine so I checked and there isn't one, and since so many engines now a days have tethers it didn't dawn on me that this one was for the reverse unit. I'll take it apart after the holidays.
Oops, it is the 8506, that has the single wire for the reverse light. The 8516 has a 4 pin plug for electronic reverse unit in the tender. There should be a on/off switch on the frame of the tender. Jim is correct.
Thanks Chuck, I didn't think to look on the tender. I just checked and that switch seems to turn the reverse unit off. BTW the engine smokes now, maybe since it was idle for so long it took a while to get going.
