How about a REAL step in the right direction, in terms of control?
Why not use an idea that works so well in other scales, STANDARDIZED plugs, then just plug in the appropriate chip, for conventional only operators just a simple inexpensive board. Want a less expensive command system, plug in an LC or LC+ board, for TMCC or Legacy, just plug in the board of choice, and pay(or NOT) for the features that you want.
For those "Price Sensitive" starter sets, include which ever board meets the Features/Price point that is the targeted market, but EASILY upgradeable for those that like a piece, but have more advanced layouts/systems.
It WORKS VERY WELL for other scales, and a simple socket shouldn't be THAT expensive, especially if used UNIVERSALLY on ALL locomotives. Removing a dummy plug, and installing a DCC decoder, is a SIMPLE 5-10 minute job in HO, and when I was in HO the decoders were VERY reasonably priced. O Gauge having higher voltages, and Amperages, the boards would be a bit more expensive, but shouldn't be prohibitively so.
There have been MANY items That I WOULD HAVE bought, if this was the case, but I am not good at wiring, and I HATE the LC/LC+ concept, I DON'T WANT a whole box of remotes, just let me grab any Cab-1 or Cab-2 and select the locomotive that I want to run.
Lionel has lost out on many sales to Me and many others as well, I am sure because of this issue.
Lionel WAKE UP!!!!
