I have a MTH N&W Y6B that when you turn on the Lionel ZW throttle, the engine sound and lights start up fine, but once you try and get the engine to move, it will not move and shuts down at the same site. Can you reset a MTH engine to factory using a Lionel ZW? Thanks. Scott.............

Need more information. What exact model of y6B are we working with here since MTH made it in both Railking and Premeir, not to mention different electronics (PS1, PS2, PS3). example 30-xxxxx-x or 20-xxxx-x
Also, if you are talking a PW ZW, then you do not have a bell button that may or may not be needed in some reset sequences.
" it will not move and shuts down" this potentially sounds like you need to check the battery in that MTH engine as it is required for proper operation. The sounds should continue for several seconds after removing power.

There are at least 8 different MTH N&W Y6B engines between Railkig and Premier made. https://mthtrains.com/prod-sea...ield_roadname%3A3954
My Y-6-B is RailKing, ProtoSound 2.0, model 30-1163-1. I messed with it about six months ago and my nephews came down and wanted to see it run, but it wouldn't. I'll go through some of the manuals/instructions that you all have posted for me. I hope it works......appears it would be easier to reset with a MTH transformer..........Thanks.........Scott

Yes, correct, a PS2 is a completely different reset and requires working bell and whistle/horn to perform that.
The bigger problem as stated is that is a PS2 5V unit from the year 2000. It's 22 years old. It has the 9V rechargeable battery that should be replaced every 4 years or at least inspected. That's highly suspect as to why it did not run for you.

Checking the Battery
You may find, if your locomotive was built several months before you set it up,
that the rechargeable battery has run down and needs to be charged before
operating. If you notice that the sounds are g arbled, test and charge the engine as
described in the "Self-Charging Battery Back-Up" on page 16
Page 7 covered reset
Pages 17-18 cover the battery inspection and replacement
Another thing to check in older engines is the speaker for flaking, the board for failing capacitors, and the battery.

I appreciate it. I recently bought some batteries with a charger and will juice one up and hope that works or possibly find someone in the area that might have a MTH Transformer and try and reset it. Nearest hobby shop is 100+ miles away, but will stay after it. Thanks............Scott..............
Other than the MTH Battery, what is considered an appropriate replacement battery for PS1 and/or PS2. Thanks.
Read this topic and the multiple replies about alternate batteries or solutions. https://ogrforum.com/topic/ps2-5v-battery
Personally, I build my own super capacitor modules or for customers use genuine BCRs https://www.jandwelectronics.com/bcr
And the local shop stocked up on genuine MTH batteries so for those that demand batteries and OEM.
