Not a good idea. There would be a huge pile of parts left over.
They wouldn't know what to do with the headlight, pilot, bell, stoker, etc.
It's a shame that most of the railroads that became part of Conrail, besides PRR, have little to no steam locomotive survivors. I believe Lehigh Valley and New Haven have zero survivors, CNJ two or so, Reading, the four T-1's, and the shop switcher at the PA museum, NYC a few survivors like Mohawks and switchers, and PRR with the most survivors, most of them in PA. I guess when steam locomotives were becoming obsolete because of dieselization, most steam locomotives were sent to the scrap line. We are lucky that any were preserved.
