Restoring a lionel 260e

Got some of the trim on it..... nothing like brass and copper on black...... also have missing trim ordered.

Recently finished my grandad's 495 restoration for that same reason.

I understand how it is, Mike.  I repaired and restored my late father's Lionel 252, which had been in pieces in a box for many years.   Somehow, it's like closing a circle.

Well this is all I can do until parts show up at the end on this week. The tender walkway is only a temp until I find a new one.. I'll also have to bend new railings for the tender as I need brass railings and the ones I have are nickle.

Nice job...what paint are you using???? i usually use Krylon but I tired Dupli-color Auto paint on my last project and it came out nice. here are some of my past projects 259E's

That is just wonderful!  Nice restorations are really under-appreciated.

Got some of the parts...... one order was missing the copper journal box covers I need for the tender.... . Almost done.

I wish I had an update on progress of this project..... but it has been stalled.  I was missing two copper journal covers for the tender truck, so I ordered some from a on-line parts dealer with other parts..... well order came in no caps..... called them talked to an employee, he took my info.... said his dad or brother packed the part orders and they would call me........ they never did.....  last time I ever order from them........   ordered caps from a different dealer...... usps lost package, however this dealer has been in contact with me the whole process..... they will have a new customer for a long time,   Thumbs up to trains-in-the-attic on ebay

Hi Mike,  Nice job on the 260E.  I also have one in process and am curious what shade of Green you used for the frames?  Looks like Hunter green, but just want to confirm.  Just for fun here is a pic of my 260E when I first got it.....  I had been stalled waiting on a tender, however I just picked a couple up and o maybe I can get to work on this and see if it is possible to finish the job lol

for the green I had some Restoration paint that matched the original..... but hunter green would be close......  wow good luck on that one, atleast the frame is good

Mike, that's a great restoration job. Your Dad would be proud!!

BTW, the tender looks like a 263T, not a 260T. No big deal as anything goes with tinplate--just thought I'd point that out. 

I enjoy seeing these classics brought back to life!

If you have trouble with copper journal covers I have some 9n my parts bin that I could send out in an envelop. 

Covers should be in the mail next week from my parts source.....

I know this is old but did you ever finish this locomotive?
