How many engines and pieces of revenue rolling stock are on the dead track of your layout? Well maybe they are on the bench or in a box instead of a dead track, but how many and why?

I currently have two dead engines that require skills beyond mine to fix. My railroad also has some passenger rolling stock sidelined for repair and refinishing:

> Rail King Jersey Central 2-8-4 with PS2 that I believe has a bad tether or a bad solder joint in the tether's receptacle under the cab floor. This engine has been a high maintenance piece ever since the railroad bought it, but I like this big Berkshire so it stays on the property;

> Rail King Dreyfus Hudson with PS2 that also has a bad tether. This is another favorite engine that I miss running. It has been on the dead track for over 2 years;

> Lionel Hiawatha Cedar Rapids sustained cracks in its aluminum car body from a 40" fall to the concrete during a wreck. Now I wish the body was plastic which is easier to repair. I thank technology for J B Weld;

> Several previously owned Rail King heavyweight cars bought from various railroads are awaiting repainting in the Long Island's 1950s steam era gray scheme.

Both of the engines will go GGG for repair as soon as my piggy bank has enough money in it. As for the dome car, I will piece it back together on a snowy day this coming winter. I need more Long Island Rail Road decal sets to refinish the commuter cars.

None, Bobby. If there is a service issue, I do my best to get the problem solved ASAP. My skill sets are not in the engine repair business, so I get them to where they will be fixed correctly.

 Too expensive to have revenue producing engines that are not productive.

I have or had a small CSX switcher from Lionel that wobbles so bad it derails itself on straight tracks, so it sits in a box awaiting sale if I still have it. The frame was bent from the first time it came out of the box.

Another one is a lighted caboose by Lionel in my favorite railroad, the repair parts are so expensive it was cheaper to buy another one from an auction and use the first one without a light inside it. I burnt up the center rail roller on DCS command control, at first I thought that I had a problem with my PS-2 steam engine, but then I used the engine & tender one time by itself and had no trouble for about 15 minutes. The center rail roller had melted in the truck assembly and was touching an axle, creating a dead short.

Neither of these two items cost me over $50.00 each when new.
