All pre-orders will be converted to a free layaway.  Please feel free to order through our Web-site or call us on the phone. I will personally take your order and give you personal service. There in lies the controversy about exactly WHICH era version UP 4000 class locomotive models will Lionel be making. Many folks have indicated that Lionel informational brochures & statements at York, indicate that the "Big Boy models will be as delivered". However, the UP modernized all of the first 20 4000s to look just like the last five, by about 1947, i.e. those cooling coils on the front pilot deck.

Thus, if Lionel really does produce the VL "Big Boy" models to look like 1941 "as delivered", then the models will NOT resemble ANY of the remaining 4000s currently saved & on display.  Your guess is as good as anyone else's, so far.

That is some great information.
Thanks for Posting it.

Weird thing is Lionel did make 4023 and 4024 in the previous 2006 JLC production, correctly eliminating the cooling coils on those road numbers and leaving them on the others. One would think they would just bring those back out like the others.

I am not in the market for one right now, but if I were ordering one I would probably go for 4006. That number was imprinted in my mind the first time I saw the original 1999 Lionel Big Boy #4006 model.

HERE IS THE NEW ROAD NUMBER RANKINGS AS OF 03/24/2014 FOR THE LIONEL BIG BOYS.

 1   4014

 2   4012

 3   4006

 4   4004

 5   4018

 6   4017

 7   4005

THANKS

HELLO, ALL

I have been getting a few phone calls about Free Shipping. When you order on our website the shipping will show on the order, I will remove the shipping and send you a new invoice after the order is placed. Please note the Free shipping is on the Legacy and Vision line Steam engines on our Pre-order list.

Thanks

Pat

Thanks...

We have a layaway plan that you can start paying for the item now, we actually convert all orders to layaways for this reason. The balance is due when the item arrives. We do not have layaways after the pre-order items come because of the pre-order pricing. We are offering these engines at rock bottom pricing. I am sure the prices of these engine will increase once they have been shipped due to the fact they are made to order.

Thanks

Pat

Big Boys are due in DEC.

Berkshires are due Nov.

E-8s are due Oct.

We have the dates on our price sheets.

Thanks

I wonder if the road number that comes in last place will be the prized collector's item since it will be the fewest units made.

Anyway it's nice to see 4006 in a tidy third place. Still have fond memories of that 1999 model. It was a wild new direction for Lionel at the time and to this day it still commands surprisingly hefty prices.

And if I were Lionel, I would schedule a VL 611 J to be released the same year that the real 611 comes back to the rails.  They would sell a ton!

A j with blow down and smoking whistle  would be a win.

I have to agree with you the looser will be the winner.
