Any advice for loosening a frozen drivetrain on Hines 2-8-2. The worm and worm gear appear fine. Likely some oxidation on the axles. I usually employ wd-40 for this task, but seek advice from those with more experience.

Along with the wd40 , you may want to add a little heat ( with a good soldering iron) . warm it up, let it cool off , add a little wd40 and repeat. Slow and steady, the expansion and contraction should do it!
I use Marvel Mystery Oil it's fabulous it'll get anything to move little Heats nice too sometimes put try Marvel Mystery Oil let it sit there for a while add another coat and then start turning the driver's one way or another sooner or later you'll get something to move patience helps never met an engine I couldn't get to turn over with enough Marvel and time

Listen to the man - Marvel Mystery Oil penetrates and lubricates. My dad swore by the stuff and always had gallon canisters on the shelf - I've used it for almost 40 years to lubricate toy trains and I swear by it as well.
I wonder if you can get that in Australia??? I wondered if we could have some pics of your progress. cTr....( Choose the Right )

Marvel Mystery Oil is a topnotch lubricant/oil that can also be used as a fuel additive/preservative for gasoline. It's safe to use on plastic, and a quart can will last you a lifetime or two as far as oiling model trains is concerned.
The Marvel Mystery Oil fuel additive is probably the one you would want to try for this. Its desinged to remove coating and build up in the carb, intake and valves of gasoline engines. Been around for many years.
