Ribbons

Hi,

This may sound like an odd question, but does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning the ribbons that are used to pull locos out of their packaging? The ones for my starter set 4-4-2 are covered in smoke fluid, and in turn it's getting all over the engine.

Hand wash with Dawn dish soap??? Or buy a new roll of ribbon and make a life time supply of new ones!!
