This is terrific news! That said, and despite the optimism expressed in the article, it remains to be seen whether this new line to Burlington will be profitable in the long run, and escape the chopping block down the road. It should be fine in the short run, in light of the huge spike in gasoline prices, but that will not last forever. Here's hoping it will be successful.

Profitable really?  Since when has any Amtrak train been profitable?   The State, Feds, and the RR have spent large amount of money improving the line North of Rutland.  Since this is an extension of a current train the Ethan Allen it will run whether the trains are full or empty.  Politicians in the Northeast love trains whether it’s a good idea or not in the drive to get people out of their cars.  This train is not going anywhere.
