I have a couple of Right of Way's cabooses, and have been experiencing one smoke unit that gives out a loud "pop" and then smokes up a storm. Now that one is not smoking at all, so I assume that "pop" was telling me there was/is a problem. Any thoughts, and where do I find a new smoke unit? I also noted that these cars do not have an on/off switch for the smoke unit.  Thanks.

The best way it to trace the wires and see what they're powering it with.  Most of the brass I've taken them out of has a 6V supply that powers some lights and the smoke unit.  If it measures from around 7-9 ohms, it's most likely one of the 6V models.

I'm going from memory but there was a 1.5Vdc regulator for the two Grain of Rice lamps in the markers, a 7806 for the main lamp, and a series pass NPN with a 16V zener to power the smoke unit (just so it would never see more than 16Vdc).

I'm building more shelves and I think I finally found my RoW box so I can handle some other unanswered questions on the forum.

Yep, the large ones are what I have, I don't have any of the small ones.

Lou, you could be right for the Right-of-Way Caboose.  I'm going with what I've found in the Weaver, Williams, and 3rd Rail brass, all of those were 6V units.  I did run across a 16V unit in a Williams diecast steamer, it was connected directly to track power.
