Last week I received MTH Premier Southern Ps-4 1401 (20-3006-1). I posted photos in Weekend Photo Fun on Friday. Reading the instructions, I discovered that the bell can be turned on and off only in Neutral. This is the FIRST QSI/MTH sound system (1994). Back then, transformers with bell buttons were few and far between. I want to turn the bell on and off in Forward, Neutral and Reverse. I want to blow the whistle in Neutral as well. Both are programmable features in later QSI systems. But this is the first. The only programmable feature is #6, Chuffing Sounds. Can I replace a chip to ring the bell and blow the whistle in Forward, Neutral, or Reverse? Or do I need another board?
I am delighted with this FINE model of the sole surviving Southern Ps-4. There is no provision for PSA (Passenger Station Announcements), but all I need are Bell and Whistle in Forward, Neutral and Reverse.
I attached a photo of the locomotive and tender and another photo of the QSI board and chip. They are mounted vertically. In back of them is a rectangular aluminum heat sink.
I appreciate any and all replies. Thank you.
