It was probably a lease engine. That's the Ann Arbor Railroad track that the accident occurred on.
It gets better. She drove into the side of the train. There is a chance the trains wasn't even moving at the time or only slowly. That's why the crew was totally unaware of the situation. The crew going the other direction saw the car in the ditch along the tracks and notified authorities and they fished her and the car out of the ditch and took her to the hospital. No gates, but there are crossing lights. It was dark (4:30 am) but no one knows how/why the driver drove into the side of a train.
