I have just laid some outddoor carpet for my ground cover on my toy train layout. While it looks great, I forgot to take into consideration the small bits of road I have planned. If anyone has suggestions as whether to cut the road sections out of the carpet or to lay something over the carpet. I would appreciate any suggestions anyone has.

Lay asphalt paper over the carpet - it makes pretty good roadways. Cut it to shape and even paint line on it.
Art supply stores as Michaels sell different colored foam sheets 12" x 18" about 16th of an inch thick and cost about .99 a sheet. You can cut them to any size road you need.

I have just used flat black latex house paint on such, but with the price of a quart of paint and given that you have just a small area to cover, the foam suggestion makes sense. I'm not sure how well the craft type water-based paints would hold up for this purpose.
