I got an email from Bob just a few days ago, on October 7. He told me he is going under the knife for some brain surgery soon and just wanted to update me on his condition. His prognosis is good and I hope we see him posting here  again some day soon.

For those of you who may not recognize the name, this forum owes a LOT to Bob Coniglio. In the formative years of this forum as we were struggling to build an audience, Bob was a prolific poster here. As was mentioned above, he was the first forum member to reach 10,000 posts. And his posts were not trivial...he always posted good ideas and thought-provoking threads that many people here enjoyed. He was an unending source of fascinating ideas.

Bob conceived the "Trains for Kids" project which ran here for several years during the Christmas holiday. That program put O Gauge train sets in the hands of deserving children for several years. Bob conceived the idea and ran the entire program. Many other forum members pitched in to help find the recipients, donate sets and even deliver the sets to the kids. Bob is justifiably proud of his accomplishment here and we even ran a story in the magazine about it.

I'm certain that Bob will stay in touch with me and keep me posted on his progress. We all wish him the best!

Rich,

Bob's Trains for Kids program was a Wonderful Idea, and Experience, I was an Ambassador for two years of the program, and it was a Very Rewarding Experience.

I can't even imagine the Time and Effort that Bob put into that program, I Hope that he was an Ambassador for a least a couple of the sets that his program placed, so He could see first hand some of the smiles that were created by all his Hard Work.

Doug

Bob was outstanding and enlightened many of us with the content of his threads and posts. Because of my own health issues it was necessary for me to support Trains For Kids with monetary donations as opposed to direct participation. However,I always appreciated the many Forumites--the Ambassadors-- who stepped forward and delivered the trains and the dealer who helped purchase them.

I miss Bob and wish him well in his upcoming surgery. Many thanks to Rich for OGR's support and for bringing us up to date regarding Bob.

I am forever grateful for Mr. Congilio  as I was an ambassador in the Train for Kids program the last year that Bob ran it.  I was able to Give out Two sets to two needy families.  Both of them were very grateful.  It was an honor to be part of his program and really let me see the meaning of Giving.  Handing out those sets made my Christmas Holiday that year and I have been working and giving ever since.

I am Glad to hear that Bob is expected to come through alright.  My Prayers and Thoughts are with him and his family for a complete Recovery.  I am waiting patiently for him to post again.

Being on this forum from the beginning I was always reading what Bob had to say and although he posted allot they were very informative posts. I don't know how he came up with so many ideas. He was amazing.

some people on this forum could take a lesson from Bob and know that you don't have to respond to every post just for the sake of posting but have something to say and help the person you are responding to.

Good luck Bob, hope everything goes Well with your operation.

?  I like Bob too but I seem to remember him often replying to his own post to the point the webmaster had to rein him in.

Yes Bob was not perfect but his were from trying to get things right and explaining to dunderheads like me that took allot of explaining to get things right.

But you know that there are guys here that talk for the sake of talking, me included sometimes.

I will always associate Bob C. with elephants - here in Tennessee, we have a preserve for retired and abused elephants located near Hohenwald, TN.

Bob's inimitable sense of humor created a whole comic fantasy about this ACTUAL place which was quite funny and ironic.

In fact, the elephant preserve does wonderful work for these magnificent creatures, and it is NOT open to the public so these animals can enjoy their remaining years with a minimum of human interaction.

Also have to add the generosity of Lionel LLC with their donation of both sets and expanders that we were able to give out.

Hope all is well Bob

And also have to remember this guy named Charlie that had some things to do with the Trains for Kids program

Ambassador Ben

I can't sleep well these days with the brain surgery on my mind so I was surfing when I ran across this post. I am lifted by the comments  and thank all for them. Surgery should be in about 3 weeks and I am thoroughly scared. Maybe I should do a few posts to keep sane.

ALSO, as far as Trains for Kids I should thank those members who gave hundreds of dollars in donations as well as all of the smaller donors. Naturally a big thanks goes to charlienassau.

LOVE,

Bob C.

Good luck and all of Gods blessings with your surgery Bob. You where a big part of this website and I truly feel that the fact that you are one of the few "old-timers" where most members, new and old remember your name testifies to just how big a part of our life you remain.

Hang in there buddy and always keep looking up. Unless you are following an elephant parade, then you got to look down!

But even at that you can always do the Philadelphia Mummers Strut.
