First I would like to thank the 70 or so people that visited the March Meet ROS layout tour on Sunday.  I know all of the ROS hosts had a good time and hopefully the visitors did too.  It makes for a long but very satisfying weekend.  If you were able to attend, do you have any suggestions on how to make it even better?  Sunday afternoon works out best for us so that will continue but we may try being open on Saturday night too.  Would Saturday night work out better for some of you?  Attached are a few pictures I took.  That is one of the bad things about having a open house.  You tend to be so busy you don't take pictures.  Any comments, additional pictures or suggestions would be appreciated.   op1op2op3op4op5op6op7op8op9

Thanks John,

I agree with your comments.

I believe our impromptu opening on Saturday night was beneficial for those who came so we should add that same Saturday night time officially to the schedule for 2019 (in addition to our regular Sunday hours).  That will give folks from the East a chance to see the layout prior to driving back home on Sunday.  As for photos, I got so busy talking to people I didn't take any!  Also, I would like to thank Roger Dawes and Tom McCabe (no relation) for coming over and helping to run the layout, which freed us up to visit with people.  Thanks again to all of our visitors over the past weekend for coming out to see the Rockford O Scalers.

We had a great time visiting your layout on Sunday afternoon.   It looked like you have been very busy working on it over the last year.  As always the layout looked great, everyone was very friendly and willingly to answer questions and share knowledge, and the snacks were good too.

A special thanks to John for sharing his techniques for making the fabulous large trees on the layout.  After we got home, my wife explored the Internet for sage brush armatures and found a site called Branches Wholesale that we are going to try.

Another thing I forgot to ask about was the source of your backdrops.  I'm especially interested in the small town and farm scenes behind the area where the new Altoona Model Works grain elevator is.  I have seen these scenes before and now can't seem to find them anywhere.  I hope this manufacturer hasn't gone out of business and I have waited too long.

Thanks for opening up your home and layout to us every year, your modeling is very inspirational to us and we appreciate it very much.

I forgot to post a few pictures earlier that would help clarify my question regarding backdrops.  Here are a couple that show some of the area that I am talking about.  I think these would work very well behind my towns of Spencer and Ruthven.

And I really liked the Milwaukee Road station in the two tone gray paint scheme.

And finally I didn't realize you had a crime problem until I saw these two guys stealing a wheel off this car parked by your freight yard.
