I don’t use the relay on any of twenty Z-2500 switches and they all work perfectly.I have all non derailing so I use the green and yellow wires. But if your not using non derailing you don’t have to use relay or green and yellow wires.. 1 have legacy cab 1L. You need dz 2001 data driver which plugs into back of cab 1L base. Than for me that connects to my TPC  400. So I can run all my switches with cab 1L. Go to ZStuff website for instructions on DZ 2001 driver. The white wire on the DZ2001 driver is connected to  the blue wire of the DZ 2500 and than you can program  switches to your cab 1L or cab 2.  PS you may also want to use the DZ-2502 manual switch buttons just in case. I even have the Ross double cross over with non derailing but with the double cross over you have to use  the relay. Ron

Do I need to connect the green and yellow wires from a DZ 2500 motor to the 1008A relay if I am NOT using the non-derailing feature?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Greg

Maybe it would help if we knew what you are using the DZ-1008A for.  With or without non-derailing, all my info shows both the green and yellow wires attached to the relay.

You may want to check out Z-Stuffs web site.  They have lots of drawings showing how to connect various devises to their switches.

Refer to the annotated DZ-1008 pic below - the explanation that follows is from the DZ-1008 point of view. I hope I have added some info without getting to basic.

The pins in the upper right corner (shown inside blue rectangle) are to make a direct connection to a DZ-1000 switch machine, and have no use with a DZ-2500 switch machine.

The purple rectangle shows the actual relay with the relay's wires for Common, NC (normally closed), & NO (normally open).

The green rectangle shows the relay control. The Green wire controls the relay ==> +5 on the Green wire activates the relay coil, open or ground deactivates the relay coil. Relay deactivated, relay Common is connected to NC, relay activated relay Common is connected to NO.

Yellow wire exists on the DZ-1008 for the sole purpose of passing thru anti-derail from track to a directly connected DZ-1000 switch machine. No connection to the Yellow wire is required when connecting to a DZ-2500 switch machine.

FYI - The DZ-1008 was mechanically designed/packaged with the three pins highlighted in the blue rectangle to directly mate with the three wire terminal block within a DZ-1000 switch machine. With the enhancement of adding TMCC control and a low profile package design for the DZ-2500, the direct connection possibility using the pins of the DZ-1008 had to be abandoned.
