Any thoughts as to the problem here? Wired correctly. It make a whining sound but does not operate.

Well it's clear somethings not 'grabbing' where it should be grabbing. Time to open up the DZ1000 motor for a look see.
The symptoms indicate that the worm gear has disengaged from the motor shaft. If you open up the motor (little screws on the bottom) the problem and solution is obvious.

Thanks Barry. I will look at it tomorrow.
Happens more often than not. I use CA instant adhesive to put the gear back on. Works great.
Quick question. The switch is installed and the track is screwed down. Can I fix the DZ1000 from the top? Or is the bottom approach the best and/or only solution?
You must remove the switch motor, not the switch track itself.

Barry, There are two screws on the DZ1000 that are on the top of the unit. I apologize for maybe making this harder than it should be, but can I repair the motor by removing these two screws and gaining access to the motor then?

Barry, I see now what you were explaining. Thank you again. Yes, I had to remove my switch from the track to get to the underside. Photos attached.

Yes.
Unscrew the switch machine from the switch, manually move the wire back and forth to make sure the switch is OK,,if the switch is OK, and your not unemployed Just buy 2 DZ-1000s from ross, Replace the switch machine, and your done. Then you'll have spares in the future to be able to trouble shoot your switches in the future, and not spend 3 days and countless hours spinning your wheels over a minor problem, that could only be one of two things, a jammed switch, or a bad switch machine, Start there and see what happens before you overanalyze it http://rossswitches.com/lighte...ghtedcontroller.aspx
