An atlas 7.5 #7021 (LH)2 rail hi speed switch would be ideal but are impossible to find. I called Ross switches and they can leave the 3rd rail out for my purposes and should connect with my existing Atlas 2 rail flex track. My ?..is there 11 degree switch similar to the atlas 7.5 ?

Doesn't Atlas 2-rail track have code 148 rails?  Ross track and switches have code 215 rail so the combination would be ugly to say the least.  The Atlas 7.5 is a NUMBER 7.5 switch, meaning the diverging route separates from the main route by 1 unit for every 7.5 units past the frog.  Ross makes a number 8 switch which is close to the same frog angle as the Atlas 7.5.

Willygee,

This is something I downloaded from the "old" Atlas forum:

From Atlas O Forum

The #5 and #7.5 turnouts are not what I consider "drop-in" switches.  They do not replace 1-for-1 a given fixed curve section.  These turnouts duplicate a prototype switch in which the frog is straight on both legs.  However, these turnouts are geometrically compatible with our entire track system for easy inclusion into a layout.  The #5 curved leg is equivalent to 11.25 degrees of curvature.  This is the same as a 1/2 section of 072 or 054.  The #7.5 has 7.5 degrees of curvature and when combined with 2 sections of 1/3rd 081, it is equivalent to a full section of all our curves from 054 to 099.

Jim Weaver

I believe the "curved section" Jim Weaver refers to is the curve within the points and before the frog.  From the frog to the end of both the straight and diverging sections, the track is straight.

Hope this helps,

Chuck

Bob is correct. Atlas track is code 148. I was going to say basically what Bob said about the number of the switch, but I want to add that not only is the Ross rail larger than the Atlas rail but the ties are taller too. This means you would have to shim up or down the Atlas track so that the rail heads are even.

Here are a couple of links with some more information.

atlas 7.5 LH switch unavailable...searched everywhere. The current turnout in place is #5 LH atlas turnout. As i am backing in atlas 33k tank cars will jump and sometimes the 5 engine scale diesels will bind at the scale couplers.

Since you a modern era modeller, I'd suggest the Peco Code 143 "Medium Radius" turnout;  published specs on it say it's  8 degrees and equivalent to a 72" radius.  I think when I measured one it worked out to about a #7.  They seem to be available, in the $85 + shipping range.

As I've written before, I think it is the best RTR turnout on the market.

With best regards, SZ

Just do an oogle search for 'Peco turnout code 143' and you should find them in the US [ just not on -bay ] as I did.

I just received one left hand and one right hand #8 code 148 turnout from O Scale Turnouts to begin replacing my Atlas O #7.5 turnouts one or two at a time.

Check out the O Scale Turnouts website.   I think most will agree with me that they are a huge step up from Atlas O turnouts.

Replacing an Atlas O  #7.5 with an O Scale Turnouts #8 will require some minor trackage changes.  Easily done on my layout.

Austin bill..If one of your 7.5 LH turnouts(part #7021) becomes available let me know. My existing wiring and atlas motor solenoid from my #5 will bolt right up . My high speed loop will go through the straight section, switch side slow speed scale 3mph.
