I have several Ross switches (and love them) wired for non-derailing by using the short inside rails coming off the frog

and the LEDs only come on when a car is connecting the inner and outer rails.  I am using a on-off-on switch for

activating the turnouts and wired for 14V accessory, not track voltage, not the controller that came with the DZ1000.  I thought the LEDs should stay lit all the time. Should I use a separate piece of insulated track for non-derailing and not the short inside rail of the turnout?

Thanks.

If you open a Z1000 switch machine and a Z1002 controller, you'll see why the lights act as they do.  Mr. Zander has produced an intriguing wire schematic.

In 2 locations, I have 1 controller controlling 2 switches, both essentially crossovers.  The controllers are mounted on my control panel over the track plan.  It took a bit of manipulating wiring, controller orientation, and controller bulb location to get the controller lights to show red when the switches were set to cross over and green when not,  for I am insistent that the switch work as I want it when I press the button by the light that is not lit and then the LED be lit over the track the train will take, but it can be done.
