I'm having some trouble joining Ross switches to Atlas track.  The problem is the Atlas joiner doesn't go back far enough to make a good, tight connection.  As such there is a gap between the two track pieces.  In all cases I had to cut a slit in the last tie so I could slide the joiner further back.  This sometimes works and other times doesn't work well.  It was once recommended to cut the stringers on the last switch tie, slide it back allowing the joiner to fit properly.  Is this really possible ?  Aren't the stringers metal ?  How would they re-attach again ?  Also, some of the joiners are tough to slide onto the switch rail.  Need to spread them some but then they don't fit the Atlas rail as well.  There must be a better way.  Ideas welcome !

I have had some success doing the following:

I have shortened the atlas track joiners on one end with a dremel tool and very fine file.... Focus on shortening the "bottom" of the joiner where it is longer.

Second approach sometimes in addition to the first suggestion, is I take a Zona or Razor saw and make a relief groove in the Ross Wooden tie, I clamp the track between two soft pine boards in my bench vise and then make the cut just under the rail bottom.

Hope that helps.
