Just wondering, I'm about to start finishing up the wiring of my layout, do you guys wire in the push button that came with the switches even though it can be controlled through the AIU? Or do you not bother with the button at all. Really don't have any space on top for the buttons but if I had to I could mount them on the frame side.

On the power note: right now I have one z1000 brick on my fixed channel 1. I'm going to be needing both channels and wondering what my best route would be. I could take the 1000 and use it for the aiu and purchase a 4000 for both fixed channels or should I buy 2 more 1000 bricks or Lionel bricks.

Thanks!

I'm a big fan of the Z4000 for powering DCS layouts. In addition to the amp and volt meters, the ability to go to 22 volts at 10 amps for each handle, and the excellent circuit breakers, you have the option of "touchless" control of each Z4000 handle right from the DCS Remote using a Z4000 Remote Commander receiver.

Also, you get 14 volt and 10 volt accessory circuits at 4 amps each.

Barry,

Can the z4000 handle the AIU on top of running both ports on the TIU that only runs switches right now or would you still power that with the z1000 I would have extra if I purchased the 4000?

Todd,

Yup I do have the book. Has been excellent help!

Lance,

If your switch tracks run at 14 volts or so, the Z400- would power them as well, either via an AIU or directly from the control panel buttons, or both.

Alternately, you could use the 14 volt port on the Z4000 to power the TIU, itself.

This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

Excellent! I was a little confused on reading it in the book but think I am understanding it now. I already have an AIU so figure I my aswell put it to good use. My layout only has 8 Ross Switches (DZ1000s) on it so I believe I will have adequate enough power!
