Received as a gift, an MTH RTR set that features a Santa Fe F3 diesel locomotive and three lighted cars. One is a baggage car. One is a dome car and the last is an observation car. They are well made. It did not come with the sets transformer, but I ran her on my oval with the remote.
She ran so smooth, I barely heard a peep out of her. Save the locomotives engine sounds and horn/bell. She is 0/27 but she looks great on my layout with that desert scene for a back drop.
Early MTH RTR sets actually utilized a video cassette versus a CD ROM. Other then that, she is pretty basic, but she sure runs smooth as silk. I am very impressed with MTH's early attempts at RTR sets. The newer ones are also quite nice. Lionel makes a similar set right now in a RTR format. RTR sets are not that bad if one can overlook the compressed features and limited amount of detailing being offered on their full scaled cousins. When I see the locomotive next to my Dash 9 you can tell the scale is obviously somewhat different. However, I could care less. The set is really nice.
