Or whatever the proper term is...Has anyone found a good method of removing cast-on running boards that will not mar the rest of the Diecast boiler?

The couple I've worked on I removed using my Dremel, but I usually end up with a gouge or two that must be filled with JB Weld or similar filler.

Another part that always needs to be removed are sand lines that run from the sand dome down below the running boards.

I suppose the ideal way would be to have a milling machine, but not many of us have those laying around.

After making a boiler (using PVC round stock cut on my mini-lathe) for the Weaver 4-6-0 chassis I got from Ed Rappe, it might be better to buy another length of that and make new boilers.

The reason I ask is I have 2 steamers I want to move the running boards and sand domes on to get them looking like Seaboard engines.
