Merry Christmas All, I have a fellow that bought my Lionel SD70 Trump diesel. He ask a question about being able to run it with his Z1000 MTH DCS 50-1035? What do you think? Does he need to invest in Lionel operating equipment. Thanks so much for your help. Dave

Without the addition of a Legacy or TMCC base by the MTH cable to his TIU, he will be able to operate the loco in conventional mode. Many features not available, however.
He can also use the free Lionel smart device (tablet or phone) app to control the loco using Bluetooth, or use the Lionel universal remote (about $40) to control the loco using the LionChief capability. This is more limited than Legacy, but most of the basic functions are available, including various sounds, uncoupling, etc.
If he wants to use the DCS remote or MTH app, he'll need to have a Lionel command base connected to his TIU or TIU/WIU by the appropriate MTH cable.
Thanks for your help. Dave

I have a DCS layout with a dedicated loop where a run a Lionel train. IMO just put the 18 ish volts on the track and control the Lionel as described. If they expand into pre Bluetooth/Lionwhatever Lionel locomotives, then they can look at other TMCC solutions.
