I would get a piece of half-round styrene rod - 1/8-inch diameter should be good. Glue it to a 1/8-inch-square piece of styrene strip. Then cut the combination to a 1/2-inch length. Should be close to the shape of a mailbox. Place atop a 1-inch length of 1/16-inch square styrene as a mounting post. You can simulate the mailbox door by gluing a thin piece of styrene sheet (say 0.020-inch thickness) to the front of the mailbox and trimming to the cross-section shape when the glue is dry.
