One other Note: Here we are again with any color other than black being off. This engine looks awesome in person and I am keeping it, BUT the catalog does show a much darker blue than the actual model came out with.
Lionel seems to have a problem with the shades of their colors. They always seem to be a couple of shades too light in everything they do.
No worries on this one though if you ordered the Erie, it looks fantastic in person even with the lighter shade.
I wonder if that’s the shade they’ll paint the Erie Triplex.
Added a video to see it in action.
That deep whistle sounds like 1630's. At least the blue is blue!
I wonder if the color shade issue is more the printing process than Lionel? Think about the "black bonnets" which were a result of the silver reflecting so much that the printed reproduction made them look black in the catalogues.
That is really cool-looking, Sean, and another great review. Was this Decapod offered as part of the Strasburg series, or separate from the former MTH molds? I'd be happy if Lionel used that grayish blue on the Erie Triplex - that's the best shade of Russian Blue I've seen...assuming it looks as good in person as it does on your well-done video.
I added a light high gloss finish to the blue portion of the boiler for a more metallic feel reminiscent of the mth triplex finish. (actually appears more gray in person than captured in the photo)
