Folks,

Does anyone know if you can use the fixed voltage posts on a Lionel RW transformer as an accessory source for Command & Control Fastrack Switches?  I'm trying to run "accessory power" from my RW posts C & D (10 volt) to a turnout on my layout in place of the track jumper, but when I do, I get a constant 5-volt reading on my track.  Is this because there isn't a common ground per se like there would be on the CW-80 accessory hookup posts?  Are there ways to still use the transformer to supply an "accessory power" to the switch by connecting to the transformer other than using the variable voltage posts (A/B + U)?

Thanks in advance!

It sounds like you are using the RW for train control too.

You can't use the C-D posts for switch power AND run trains with the RW, as your ground connection(AUX GND) is either the C or D post, and will be common to the outside rails, leaving 5 volts on the track all the time. I think that 5 volts you are seeing is the 5v between A-D.

Using A as common on the track("U" goes to the center rail on the RW), you have a choice of "B" for 4 volts, "C" for 9 volts, or "D" for 19 volts. Using "B" as common, you have the choice of "A" for 4 volts, "C" for 5 volts, or "D" for 15 volts.

You don't need to make the redundant connection at AUX GND if you are using the same transformer for trains and switches. Just one wire to each AUX IN connection.
