New to S-gauge, started down MTH (yah, keep snickering) because I had DCS with my O-gauge. Anyway, I wanted to add a steam engine on the S-gauge part of the layout, So I got a Lionel (Am FLyer) TMCC Chicgao & Alton passenger set. Beautiful. Anyway, I can’t seem to get it to work with a TMCC base wired to my TIU. I’ve got the TIU and Handheld at v6.10 and the TMCC engine responds slowly to any DCS handheld command. Then just stops running. I can get it to run in conventional mode. Any ideas?

Scott, I am not familiar with an S gauge Chicago and Alton passenger set by Lionel . Do you have a number for it? If it is TMCC it would be from the 2006/2007/2008 time frame.
The catalog # for the set is 49616 and the engine is a TMCC engine. Have you tried just using the TMCC base and cab1 to see if the engine responds without a DCS TIU in the picture?
Beautiful set, it is from the 2006 catalog. I would do as D&H 65 suggests. Since it runs conventional all the electronics are likely good. If it also works with a Cab1 or Cab2 base w/o the DCS and TIU in the loop then the problem is with the DCS components compatibility.
Be aware these TMCC S gauge steam engines are completely different than the O gauge TMCC engines. The S gauge TMCC engines have no cruise control board, relying on just a brass flywheel. They have two chuffs/revolution. The smoke unit is an old Seuthe puffer that only works with Seuthe smoke fluid. Any other fluid will cause the unit to stop smoking.
For info, I had all my TMCC S gauge engines completely rebuilt to add a Cruise board, eliminate the flywheel, add an MTH fan driven smoke unit, 4 chuffs/rev and a half speed worm gear.
Tom
where did you get yours rebuilt?
also I don’t currently have a cab-1 remote. I’m bidding on one.
thanks
Scott
Mine were all done by Carl Tuveson who developed the modifications. There are pictures and videos on his website at www.tuveson.com. Carl has retired from the business and no longer does this work. www.goldinhands.com may be able to do yours, he is backed up many months for new projects. My repair window for a few engines is now likely late February.
