I have two questions about the S Scale Fastrack, specifically the 27" curves. How is the 27" dimension calculated, is it actually an accurate 27" from the center of the loop to the center between the rails? Also, how many sections are needed for a full loop, is it 12 pieces (30 degrees per section) for the larger curves, like it is for the SHS/MTH track?

The 27 and 20 are the radii of the outer edge of the roadbed. The centerline radii are 26" and 19". Technically, they are about an 1/8" more, but 26" and 19" are close enough for design purposes esp. with the slight bit of flex present at the joints.

Yes, 12 of the 30 degree sections to make a circle using either all R20's or all R27's.

Thanks Chuck! Do you happen to know if SHS/MTH measures their track the same way (up till now, I had thought they measured to the center between the rails, but now I'm not so sure)?
