Time was a few years ago these went for crazy $$$ - two actually over $4000 on flea-bay. While that was probably a 'shill' bidder situation, there were a few Lionel E6s that closed for over $1500 for the AA pair.

I was watching a Santa Fe set earlier and they just closed a few minutes ago for a reasonable $474 with 9 bidders and 28 bids. Pretty units...

You got that right.

Many, many E6 units have found there way over to the two rail side of the O gauge. Although I have not done it, it must be a pretty conversion to get the unit 2 railed and repainted if needed.

I'm guessing Lionel could do these again with even more detail (add-on) and still sell well. I do think it would be a $800-900 dollar set though.

Sam,

Now that Legacy items are out, these pieces have no cool factor  anymore!

On the more serious side, do all of them have the electric blue LED headlight's? There has been quite a bit of discussion here about the Lionel E7, E8, & E9 units having a weird shaped nose, not sure what the consensus is on these. Is it because they modified those designs from the E6's? IIRC the E7 and up nose should be very close to the F3 on a model. The motors and trucks in these have been redesigned at least once and the guy who 2 railed a set for us will not convert the new ones.
