I thought I would share the progress of weathering a car in water based oils. The car is no where near finished, I still have the roof, trucks and ends to do. I also tried my hand at graffiti for the 1st time. It says DA BOMB which I dedicated to my wife, she just laughed and walked away. This is a Weaver made car with metal trucks. SIRT says 15 minutes is what it takes to do one of these, I need to learn his process. 1st I used dullcote to prime the car. I then used some 800 grit sandpaper to fade the herald's. After that I use a dot system with the oils. With the oil applied I would use a damp brush to work the oil in a down fashion. Once the car was coated I would use a drier brush to remove the colors and to blend a little more uniform. The two main sides are about done, I still need to add some more dings and a little rust, not much I am going for more of a dirty, lightly faded car this time. Once al finished I will dullcote again and enjoy it on the layout. Nick

I believe I was referring to either the fading process only on the original post. Not the entire car which would be around 2-3 hours depending on the requirements.
Seems the quote was taken out of context. I would appreciate getting the facts straight.
L.O.S, the artistry on your cars has been outstanding, I don’t think you need a video.
SIRT, I just said that jokingly about the 15 min process. I was not taking that seriously. But I must say 2-3 hours is very impressive also. For now I am having fun taking a car and trashing it. The rust bucket website has helped me out tremendously, thanks for referring it to me. Nick
Cool Nick.
Didnt want anyone to get the wrong impression. It's not always as easy as it may seem.
My first cars took 8 hrs to do. I've since learned a few quick tricks, LOL!
OK, I gotcha now.... I was like, how the *** does he do a car in 15 minutes. Sometimes it takes me 15 minutes to get a car apart. That's why I wanted to see a video... to see what in the world I'm doing wrong.
Looks great! Very realistic and I really like the rusted roof.
Thanks for sharing your new-found expertise.
That looks great!
And thanks for showing me a boxcar I haven't seen before, too.
I love that internally mounted refer unit in the lower corner.

Glad you guys like it. RetiredToRail this weaver car come in to styles. The other version has pick-up rollers and a speaker to have the compressor sounds for the car.

How cool is that?
I've got to have one!
