Save the Spy Vs. Spy Challenge Boxcar

I rather see Heckle and Jeckle. Never liked spy vs spy.

That is a shame. I won't say I'd preorder but it would end up on the wish list if it was a good action car.  (chase gon?., a changed gunfighter car?   I haven't been able to access Lionel's site outside of parts search files since before the new site was launched years ago. I gave up even trying to look.)

Maybe the issues was not preorders, maybe something came up with the licensing?

Spy vs Spy boxcar was a neat idea.  But not at $85 a pop!

Spy vs. Spy would be even better as a series of Operating Accessories with motorized figures, lights, and sounds.

Spy vs Spy was one of my favorite pieces in Mad Magazine.  But even more enjoyable were the tiny sketches on the page margins.

We are thinking along the same line, have made my "Spy vs Spy" wish known with Lionel last week, also have asked METCA to consider this project but to no avail. Maybe with a little luck...

I would have thought that Lionel secured the licensing rights before putting the boxcar in the catalog, but with the printing lead time you never know.

I would have liked the boxcar too as those are the type I collect now. I will assume that the preorder numbers were not high enough to justify production.

Then again, at $ 85 each, the numbers may never be there.

It would have cost more than that if last nights brainstorming came to be.

  I see a old style ratcheting gunfighter car. A machine gun led flash as the White Spy rises, and a bomb flash via camera flash strobe when the Black Spy drops out of sight "Clack/boom". A new board.. sounds? (Peter Gun-song?), two(?..1?) micro sw., new figures.... design all done.

Ahh, yes.....MAD magazine. My younger brother built the "Fester & Carbuncle Hot Wet Fertilizer Co." for our O  gauge layout when we were kids. My dad would just shake his head. "Kids!"     I am still a kid and bought O gauge Spy VS Spy figures for my layout.

And what about Rocky & Bullwinkle, Boras & Natasha, Dr. Peabody & Sherman? Oh, the good times we had!

Wonder if Lionel wishes they kept this in their line up now that Mad Magazine is doing away with the newsstand issues.  Might be renewed interest now....

Actually I would rather have an Alfred E. Neuman car than a Spy vs Spy car.

Story I read (perhaps incorrect) stated that it was just disappearing from newsstands / bookstores.

It claimed it would still be available at comic book stores and via subscription beyond the August issue, though it did mention a lot of content would be repeats with just new covers from now on.  Supposedly still will have new content for special issues.

So I guess it's technically not dead yet, but it's darn close to it.  I'd suspect another announcement after it changes, similar to what happened with Radio Shack near the end of it's days.
