Hi I am new to this forum and I would like to build a Logging and Sawmill diorama but having a difficult time to find some sort of plans as to making a decent building from scratch.
The only alternative I have found is to purchase a BTS or Sierra West Saw Mill kit.
If anyone has some O Scale plans that they would or could share with me it would be very appreciative.

Keystone Model Works produced a kit for a Danby Sawmill - you see them about on the secondary market.

While building the structure can be readily achieved, the availability and costs of the host of castings needed become a real challenge - here's another area where the 3D printer gang can make an impact.

While l woud need to dig, and advice above is very true, l think l have seen plans and overhead photos of, mostly large (size?), sawmills in the books ($) on various logging railroads. (And maybe in books on logging locomotives: Shay, Heisler, Climax, or Dunkirk, as offered by book dealers on line, and in larger train shows. Assume you've tried an online search for "sawmills"?

Intrigued by your question, but dunno if you are close to either, and remembering a visit to the Pa. Lumber Museum, which is on US 6 west of US 15, and close to the Grand Canyon of Pa. (If going before or after York) with family to entertain.  It was partially under construction and pouring rain pre-covid but looks like a nice lodge or HQ has been built. It has a small sawmill and may have plans.  In Oregon, the last steam sawmill in US, Hull-Oakes Custom Lumber, provided lumber to restore USS  Constitution and other historical ships, has info on the web, and looks large to me. It is historical site so may have descriptive paper.

Sawmills are in unique buildings designed around the equipment picked to do the work.  Plans might be found with google searches.

The link below will show many pictures of an old preserved Long Leaf sawmill in south Louisiana for long pine wood.

The video below shows lots of views of the Long Leaf sawmill at the Southern Forest Heritage museum.

Perhaps you can make crude drawings from such pictures to make your diorama as the buildings are just framed box like buildings.  A scale rule could be used to make to scale.

I would be blessed with whatever pictures or information that you could provide me and would be so every grateful.
You can email them to me or if there are too many then probably the easiest is to setup a google drive or drop box and send me the link.
Thanks Bob

I actually have and do 3D Printing it is a great asset.
The challenge with the Danby is that it is no longer in production and it looks like it was pretty small.

Hi and thank you for your response, slowly I am collecting some ideas on how to build a nice sawmill or lumber mill if you would like to send me some of your pictures that you have I would gladly accept them and you can send them to Randy Bourque @lourandinc@gmail.com

I found a sawmill on YouTube called the Sanger Mill and asked if there was anyway to get a copy of any drawing or plans of the building but no reply.

So this is the one that I just found that I think I will try to build as it looks pretty good.

I was just hoping that someone somewhere had some good drawing that they would be able to share.
I think that if I build this one I will make note of the construction and then make the information available for others.

Here is my Danby sawmill. Cool model.  It’s got all the parts and pieces nicely painted.  You can have it. All it needs is a new roof and a dust off.  Send me an email if you think this might work for you and we will discuss shipping, etc.  It has been sitting on a shelf for many years and is of no use to me.  I think I might still have the instructions as well.

Cheers,       W1

As I suspected would happen, AND as I discussed with William yesterday, his initial post which got deleted sounded to several (based on the multiple alerts we received) that he would sell his model sawmill. Items to sell go in the "for sale" category.  Rather than contacting you directly as I suggested or re-posting making it clear it was free and to contact him directly, he made another post still not stating it was free so I edited his post above to make it clear.  I also deleted a couple of other posts...one which clearly indicated frustration over others reporting the initial post and then another posting contact information which can be seen by non-members which could encourage the Pastor perhaps attracting others that might not have good intentions.  Once again, use profiles emails to discuss transactions and personal details.  Topic closed.
