I have several early MTH single dome Rail King tank cars they appear to be scale size 8000 gal. or 10000 gal. Item number MT-7301 Does any know if they are scale dimensioned? maybe just the tank and not the frame?
Tank cars came in all sizes. If you are looking for a true generic tank car in scale size with fairly accurate frame, the Lionel 715 is the only one I am aware of in three rail.
Thanks Bob I will have them with me at York for sale, guess I could pick up an Atlas car, and compare with my scale rule. If it's close it will be good enough. like you said a lot of different sizes and manufactures. I plan on two railing them.
Why not start with 2-rail? Lots less work. Scale Craft made a nice lead car that can be had for fifteen bucks if you keep your eyes peeled. Thomas are not quite as good, but bring a higher price. And you can make your own easily out of wood dowels:
