I recently purchased an MTH operating platform station that sugessted ways of hooking it up elecrically. Besides using the controller included they suggested using an infrared activation device (ITAD). I have used the activation device for the MTH Real TRack and it easily attaches to a cutout on the trackside. My question being....is there such a device for use with scaletrack which does not include any cutout possibilities?

You can use something like the Lionel 153IR, I find those better than the MTH ITAD as far as reliable triggering is concerned.
MTH does make a Scaletrax ITAD(P/N 45-1028) which looks like a trackside shed and operates similar to the Realtrax ITAD. Both the Lionel and MTH units can be problematic due to the particular placement of the unit, I've used both with varying degrees of success. I've had spots were one works fine and the other doesn't, and vice versa. The 153IR is for the most part better than the MTH.
