I tried to find this via Search, but I didn't really get a direct answer. I'm adding another level to my layout (which is all Atlas) and have a question about Scaletrax. Is there a way to connect Scaletrax flex together without soldering? I'm considering this because of the difficulty getting Atlas track. Must you use the Scaletrax lockons on every junction? I've watched the Black Diamond videos and Rich solders them. Comments? Ideas?

Thanks,

George (G3)

I had inquired with MTH about ScaleTrax connecting to their own RealTrax product They got back to me and said there is not any connector or adaptor track to connect to ANY other O-scale track.  You would have to make one on your own.

I know it's a dilemma as ScaleTrax looks pretty good, and is 2/3rds the price of most other brands. A considerable cost savings for a large layout.

I personally think Atlas looks a little bit more prototypical (more ties) and Atlas also has the black center-rail like ScaleTrax.  I think there are also more options (curves, turnouts, crossovers) in the Atlas catalog than what ScaleTrax has.

I keep hoping Atlas track will start appearing soon. It is due! I also want some more switches. My LHS got some Atlas switch machines in last week that they have been out of for a really long time and they have also been able to get some straights, curves and a 2-rail switch recently. Might not hurt to do some checking around, maybe it's starting to trickle in?

George,  you can join scaletrax using certain rail joiners (don't remember which ones however) but also by sliding the rails into a locking section of the ties. Not too difficult to solder the rails themselves either.

Paul - look closely at the center 'rail' of scaletrax again - it's actually an inverted 'T' which is much preferred to the very large rails that Atlas uses.  In effect, it is a blade, somewhat reminiscent of Lionel 'Super O' track
