I’m guessing you are Jack Smith. Your layout was featured in run 175. I’ve tossed most of my copies of OGR. I held on to that one. Just went down to the basement to retrieve it. That cover shot with the boy on the bike at the grade crossing is my all time favorite cover. It just says rural NE. I agree. Keep the photos coming. I model the B&A, NH and the Rutland. Love anything New England based.

Yes, Dave, that's me.  Thank you for your kind words.  I really appreciate them.  The late Fred Dole took that cover photo.  We had a lot of fun that day when he came to photograph my layout for OGR.  He loved New England railroading too.  That layout was dismantled when I retired 14 years ago.  I then immediately started work on this current layout which is pretty much completed.  I keep busy adding small mini-scenes and details and sometimes replacing a building with a new kit.  I enjoy custom painting locomotives like the CV S-2 and the CV consolidation, cabooses and rolling stock.  For me New England railroading just can't be beat!

Very nice and certainly looks like New England. Same theme as mine (see OGR Run 304). Would like to see more photos. How large is the layout and when did you complete it?

The layout is an around the wall with peninsulas and is continuous running.  It is built with L girder construction.  It is ~ 16' x 20'.  I started building it in 2006 and finished the last major area (town) in 2012.  As I stated, I have continued to model some mini-scenes here and there to keep me involved. I have run out of real estate so I will replace a building, but not too often because I like what I have.

Great scene with the covered bridge Jack !!  Is that a "dairy cattle tunnel" ?

Yes, it is a dairy cattle tunnel.  It is not without precedent.  I saw something very similar in a magazine many years ago.

On the back road from my house there is exactly that though it is a road not the railroad. The most interesting thing to have happen a couple of years after I started driving was Me. Everett's cows pulling Houdini acts of escape on him. Many a morning I would pop over to his house and tell him he had an escapee. Great tunnel, very nice pics, can't wait to see more.
