I was watching the T V Show 'American Restoration' tonight staring Rick Dale and his son Tyler. During the show there were scenes of The Nevada Northern Railroad located in Elie Nevada. The show didn't say anything about a project for the guys at American Restoration but did show them riding on a RS-3 diesel through the yard at Elie. Just thought I would give a heads up on their show next Wednesday. Check your local paper for time of the show.

I hope the show has scenes of the NN switching with their RS2, and black Alco smoke erupting every time they wind 'er up to kick a car.
I got to do the Engineer for a day program on the NN, in 2007, I ran the 4-6-0 #40 and the SD9 #204. It was a Great experience, that I would reccomend to anyone who can manage to do it. BTW, it is Ely, NV not Elie.
Something that amazed me while I was there, was that there were few locked doors, and most areas were open to the public, some thing that I Hope hasn't changed, and even more important, I Hope that nothing ever happens to give them a reason to change that policy.

Doug: Great photos of your experience there. About a year and a half ago, I drove up to Ely from Las Vegas during an automotive show. First, let me tell you that there is nothing close by to Ely! Driving well over the speed limit, it took five hours to make the trip, but it really was well worth the effort. Next time, perhaps this summer, I would hope to share your experience operating one of the steam engines, perhaps a diesel, too. And, as you mentioned, the place is wide open, very friendly people, eager to explain and help out. I spent several hours in their shop and storage building; wonderful museum in itself.
I'll also look on American Restorations for any mention of the Nevada Northern.
