Hi, I just purchased a 2460 gray painted crane with a broken boom. I am in the process of getting a boom but I have to get the dried on scotch tape off the cab without damaging the paint. Any suggestions?? I can't even get a little piece started and I don't want to scratch it, the paint is in great shape. Thanks guys ( and girls)

...Depends on how long the tape has been on, but....
Try this. Play low heat from a hair dryer on the tape. See if that will get a corner loose enough to get started.
If this works so far, then continue to GENTLY pull the tape back along itself. That is, do NOT pull the tape at a 90-degree angle to the car side. The shallower the angle of pull, the less stress will be put on the paint-to-car bond.
Take it slow.
FWIW....

Try a chemical called bestine or something spelt like that, removes gum, decals and other stcky substances without destroying the paint. You were able to get it at True value hardware stores. it is very hard to come by and evaberates very quickly. good luck. also goof says it can remove sticker gum.

I'd try WD-40. If it is the painted version I'd test first with a little puddle of WD-40 on the inside of the shell for maybe five minutes. If there's no effect on the paint I'm sure the WD-40 will remove the gum cleanly.
+1 for WD40. It will be safe on the paint but don't rub it over any lettering. Lettering is easily removed with even a dry swab. Finish cleaning it off with dish soap and water.

I, too, would use WD-40, applied directly on the tape and allowed to soak a bit.
I would recommend Goo-Gone, this has worked well for me.
I too recommend goo-gone. Great stuff for this type of application.
Ken
Warning! GOO-GONE is OK. GOOF OFF is as strong a solvent as Acetone.
Like Chuck says Goo-Gone is the way to go.

Just like others said test in a obscure area but nail polish remover might do the trick
a big thank you to all you who gave me suggestions, you guys are great, is it YORK yet hahahahahaha
...test in a obscure area...
Avon makes a product called "Skin So Soft" that should soften the tape and the adhesive without damaging the paint.
If you have a craft store around with a scrapbooking section, look for a small bottle of Un-Du. It's made to loosen the adhesive on tape and stickers without damaging paint. Don't ask me how, but we've used it a lot and it works (and we all use Goo-Gone for stuff that can be scrubbed. etc.)
Side benefit: should you want or need to save a misplaced sticker, Un-Du will dry without residue and leave the adhesive on the back usable.
