I've picked up a few second hand engines recently and I like to open them up and take a peek. Well, as the saying goes, someone has been in here before me, and failed to reinstall all the parts! In the past I would just put a list together and order from Lionel put the shipping is a little ridiculous for a few screws, IMHO. Our local hardware store doesn't carry metric that small. Where are you guys sourcing replacements?? Thank!!

Many of the train part suppliers have screws.
A fastener specific resource is @Len Carparelli who has taken over Nyerges Screws http://www.llmodeltrain.com/NyergesBaSList.pdf a number of years ago.
This is also a good screw reference: https://www.lionelsupport.com/...omplete.pdf#page=464 (If you click this link, give it a minute to load and it will take you to page 464)
Not very many metric in the junk we use, ….some Lionel rod bolts are metric, 2.5MM , etc,….most of the common fasteners on our junk wagons is 3-48, 4-40, 6-32, some fine thread stuff here and there,……take a 10 dollar bill down to your local Ace Hardware, and fill up a baggie with this and that,….flat head, pan head, washers, and lock washers……..last I checked, my Ace had small metric, starting at 2.5 MM……but I rarely need them,….

I have been getting them from Amazon. Search on small metric screw sets. 2-4mm. Flat head, pan head, stainless, blackened. Many dozens of choices, most sets about ten bucks.

As Pete mentioned, Amazon has nice kits, or as I’ve mentioned, Ace hardware ( at least mine does) has metric machine screws starting at 2.5mm and up,…

Try Bolt depot on internet
Another good source is Micro Fasteners. I get my nylon screws from them for insulating tender shells for TMCC installs.
