Does anyone know why the Proto 3 Sound keeps cutting out on a MTH SD 70 ACE Diesel Engine??? I finally got it running after updating my Firmware to 4.20. But now I'm having problems with the Proto 3 Sound cutting out on it as it's going around the track--no particular place all the time. Does anyone know what the proper voltage should be running this engine?? Thanks Guys TT

18V track voltage is the ideal setting. Does the sound cut out when idle?
Try a feature or a factory reset with DCS. You will need to readd engine after the factory reset. I assume track and wheels are clean? G
and then there's the clickity clack feature. make sure that's turned off if the sound is cutting out after say 40 MPH steady. The reset should set that to off.
Do the lights remain on? Any other symptoms?
Engineer -Joe has a good point , clickity clack cuts in and out depending on the speed and cuts out the engine sounds.... Menu/ sound/scroll down to clickity clack and turn it off. (softkey s1)
Thanks guys for all the info. I think the "clickity clack" might be on. I'll check it tomorrow. The tracks have all been just very well cleaned--by hand--not track cleaner train car. The engine does it only when it's running. It (Proto 3) drops off for no reason when the engine is moving and then sometimes comes back on. It's kind of a intermittent thing. When the Proto 3 goes out I loose the "horn" & "bell" and "ditch lights".
I am not sure why ditch lights would go out. I would pull out carefully and by the connector the 40 pin connector and reseat it. G
I wonder if you may have issues with the supercaps, any dropout of track voltage with a supercap issue would kill the sounds.
If you reseat the 40 pin connector, gently pry out out by rocking each side, don't pull on the wires! They are pretty delicate and easily broken.
