Search Terms...internet searches for trains, of course

On eBay, you have to restrict the search to O Scale, then search by road or type of equipment. All manufacturers show up, but on the left side, there are check boxes and you can select the specific manufacturer. That's how I search stuff on eBay. In a general Google/Yahoo search, if you put the search term in quotes it narrows things down quite a bit.

If you start from here:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/Model-...rains-/180250/i.html

you will see a set of scale/gauge choices on the left (for eBay purposes, they don't make the distinction between scale and gauge).  You can then further refine it by checking one or more 'brand', etc.

I would ASSume this type of search is only good as the guy who lists the item...right category, etc.

Yes, you are correct that it is dependent upon the lister information.

Next to the blue search button on the main page is the advanced search button.

First, I will try by model number. This tells me the lister knows specific information and is somewhat of an experienced seller at a minimum.

Then I try by locomotive roadname.

Finally, by loco type.

No easy way to be sure if you discovered all of the listings because of the dependency upon the information provided by the listers.

However, I do find the advanced search tool useful.

Some of the best deals can be found listed in the wrong categories.
