I remember being a kid back in the late 80s early 90s and sears always had a lionel locomotive in a wood and glass case. That was in the wish book aka christmas book. Does anyone remember these or have pics of them?

I think one of these was a steamer called the Silver Shadow...Marty
I remember them. We even sold a few back in the eighties & nineties. Lionel also made locomotives that came with a showcase for Penny's. Our number one seller from these special edition locomotives was the #8272 Pennsylvania EP-5 done in gold and brown. It was beautiful. Lionel built a #8104 General that was painted dark green with gold chrome plating. It sold only because people thought it would become a real collectors item. It was spin off of the chrome plated Rock island General in the 1981 catalog. The #8378 Wabash FM (Bluebird) was probably the most desirable piece. The #8587 was a Wabash GP and was another good seller for us. Of these special edition locomotives this engine probably came in second place behind the Pennsy EP-5.
I just remember looking at the Sears catalog back in the 50's. There was always a couple pages of trains to drool over. That and the Lionel catalog was a wish list for me as for what I wanted for Christmas.
I don't recall locomotive's with display cases at Sears, but I do recall them for J.C. Penny's.
The "Silver Shadow" ACL 4-6-4, Wabash Train Master, Wabash GP9, and Pennsy gold EP-5 were the four I had.

I still have the Silver Shadow, it is from JC Penny.

No pertinent Google hits for Sears Silver Shadow, rather Penney Silver Shadow. Trainz.com has this to say
In 1980, Lionel produced a special 4-6-4 available only through JC Penney. This attractive engine, painted in gray and silver and decorated for the Atlantic Coast Line, featured smoke, magnetraction. Sound of steam, and a whistle. It also included a walnut display board with a plexiglass cover.
This engine is often known as ‘The Silver Shadow’, and it remains one of the more difficult MPC-era steam engines to locate.
Maybe it was jcpenny. I know my first diecast loco set came from sears. I would love to see some of these catalog pages.
1980 JC Penney catalog page for the Silver Shadow.
There a few websites like http://www.wishbookweb.com/ and others on Flickr that have entire Holiday catalogs all scanned in.

J C Penny's also, sold a Lionel Engine in a glass case, In their Christmas Catalog. I did purchase one, but sold it at a train show.
I should have kept that locomotive.
Now back to March Madness.
I have the Texas and Pacific Mountain (Mohawk) in Eagle colors with a plexiglass case shown by ed h above. It was catalog by Sears for Christmas in the early nineties. I bought mine NOS from Henry of Island Trains 4 or 5 years later.
I also have two electric Interurbans in SP Daylight livery with TMCC and cases. These were cataloged by Penny's for Christmas, probably in the early 2000's.
