I recently harvested a bag full of sedum to dry and use for trees on the layout. However, I noticed that the stems were covered with black stuff, about the size of pepper grains. Closer inspection revealed the blackstuff to be live, crawling, critters. There are literally 10s of 1000s of them all over everything! Obviously, I do not want to bring any of that into the house and get any the indoor plants infested. But I do need to get them dried out before I use them. Has anyone run into this before, and if so, how did you solve the problem?

At first I hesitated to make a suggestion because I don't want to be responsible for something going wrong.  Let's suppose it was me who encountered this because I've gathered natural materials in the field before.

If I had a bag full of sedum and found this, I would probably try opening this (presumably plastic) bag and spraying in a fog type of insect killer and then seal it for a couple days.  I'd leave it outside away from my house because of the explosive potential.  And then I'd do another inspection and if needed, repeat the process.  Just my line of thinking with no guarantee of results or safety.
