I recently made a trip out to Ely, NV for some personal business. Many days, while there, I could hear the whistle and see the exhaust from one of the steam engines on the Nevada Northern Railway. Unfortunately, on the days I had available to ride, they weren't operating steam and I was otherwise occupied on the days that they did operate steam.
However, on the return trip, I made a point of overnighting in Cheyenne, WY so that I could see Big Boy 4004 which is on static display there and has recently been cosmetically restored. I'd seen 4014 on her trip through MN having made video as she passed within a 1/4 mile of my home and got a chance to get up close as well as tour some of her consist in Duluth, MN. This was my chance to document one of her sisters, all within a few miles of where she is quartered.
Here are photos I took, for your pleasure. I'll post them without much comment as I feel they'll be easier to view, but feel free to ask questions about particulars that I, or other more experienced railroaders, may be able to answer. I'll likely post in a couple of sessions as I have a very slow connection where I live. All these images were taken by me with my Nikon DSLR and are owned by me.
