How about a Union Pacific unit leading a NS second unit on a strictly NS autocarrier train in Pittsburgh on the Norfolk Southern Fort Wayne line seen this week.
Or this recently:

As long as the locomotives can MU, any combo is possible. Run through and leasing makes things interesting.
I was in Glidden TX in tje late 1970's. Due to a power shortage, this SP division point jad NO SP unots!
Very common, HP hours pooling from road to road.
When I was with NS I use to lashup several different variations. As long as the leading unit was a NS engine on NS lines then all is well. For every day another railroad's unit is on NS lines, then NS is being billed, so priority goes to lashing up other RR's units to get them back to their owner.
What to look for when creating power for a train: HP (Overall for train tonnage, distance, and grade), Fuel level, hours until dead (Federal maintenance check), and if it needs to be returned to owner.

That reminds me of seeing csx unit on ns from time to time.I have even seen whole sets of csx units on ns.And on cxs I have seen ns units on trains.Even ns high hoods to sd70 and newer cw44s.Seen a lot of up on csx even kcs.
This is a very common practice, especially when rail traffic volumes are way up as they are now. You have leased power, and trains that are interchanged between railroads. Railroads will grab power from where ever they need to so they can get the trains over the road.
Note: Ferromex (Mexico), and BNSF. Picture on CSX mains near Myersdale, PA. Many years ago, over the mountain to Cumberland, MD. Picture from the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail. Salisbury viaduct.
