In 2026, just three years from now, we will commemorate the United States Semiquincentennial and the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The Library of Congress, along with other Federal agencies, will be taking part in this commemoration. Will Lionel or any train manufacturers be putting out a Semiquincentennial locomotive or train to commemorate this occasion? I ask because I have collected many K-Line and Lionel Bicentennial editions and was also wondering what a Semiquincentennial edition might look like.

Hopefully the real railroads will paint locomotives in commemorative liveries, just like some of them did in 1976 for the US Bicentennial celebration.

At least one short line already has.

I hope others follow suit.  I'd like to see all the big players do a tribute diesel, and I think it would also be pretty cool if Reading & Blue Mountain painted their T1 in a scheme similar to the American Freedom Train #1 (now sadly rotting away at the B&O museum ).  Such schemes would give all the model RR companies plenty of new product to sell.

Andy,  you are spot on.  It is very sad to see the AFT at Baltimore Roundhouse in the condition it is in.  I sure hope they clean her up and give her a fresh paint job in the near future.

Thanks for the link Andy, interesting article and great photo. Nice to see this is getting some attention by the railroads. Hope the model companies put out some nice pieces as well.
